Singapore Healthcare System and Medical Ethics Notes PDF free download

In Singapore, NUS Medicine uses the FSA and SJT, whereas NTU Medicine uses the MMI. (More details and application guide here.)

These medical school admissions assessments mostly test your skills and aptitude (e.g., role-play, task-based, motivations to study medicine) rather than content knowledge. However, it would be extremely beneficial to have some background knowledge, particularly in two key areas:

  1. Singapore’s Healthcare System (for local medical school applications)
  2. Medical Ethics (broadly applicable)

These notes are specially curated to meet this purpose. They are comprehensive without being overbearing—synthesising the key points in a well-organised manner. The notes incorporate the latest developments (as of February 2024).

How to use these notes

  • There’s definitely no need to know or memorise everything in these notes.
  • But it’s very good to have this background knowledge and understanding, from which you can remember some key points.
  • The later sections are more interesting and incorporate the latest updates. Sections 2-4 are more for background.
  • The notes aim to be comprehensive and cover all aspects. You do not need to know the details!

Medical Ethics Notes

How to use these notes

  • As with the Singapore Healthcare System Notes, you definitely do not need to know or memorise everything here.
  • Similarly, it serves as very useful background knowledge that is broadly applicable to any medical school interviews or admissions assessments.
  • Most important would probably be to know the 4 principles of medical ethics.
  • These principles are not just good to know theoretically, but can be applied to the scenarios in MMI or FSA stations. (Tip: When presented with any scenario, use the 4 principles as a framework to structure your response!)
